PRINCE MOHAMMAD BIN FAHD UNIVERSITY TO SPONSOR EDUCATION’S “OSCARS”
HOW BLINKNOW BUILT NEPAL’S GREENEST SCHOOL
Dear Reimaginers,
There’s only one month left if you want to take your shot at winning one of 2019’s “Oscars” of Education: our call for submissions closes on September 1st at 23:59 BST. Don’t miss out on your chance to capture the attention of the world’s faculty, investors, edtech specialists, and students: apply today!
We’re delighted to have received nearly 1000 applications already, with edX, MIT, Harvard, Stanford, Imperial College Business School, and Warwick Business School among those undergoing the Reimagine application process. These household names are joined by a rich variety of institutions and companies from across the world, from the Universities of Johannesburg and Cape Town in South Africa; to Curtin, QUT, the University of Sydney, and the University of Queensland in Australia; to Singapore’s two flagship universities, the National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University; to India’s University of Delhi and IIT Roorkee.
We’re also delighted to announce two more speakers for the event: Kathy Pugh, Vice-President of Education Services at edX, and Elmarié Potgieter, Founder & Managing Director of RITE International. Kathy will be leading our conversation on the future of online learning – with a particular focus on MOOCs, and what is being done to expand them to underserved educational communities – alongside Simon Nelson of FutureLearn and Justin Reich of MIT.
Ms. Potgieter has extensive international experience in leading the development, implementation and impact assessment of large-scale education transformation programmes. These capacity building programmes focus on educational leadership and pedagogical coaching, as well as curriculum framework development. At Reimagine 2019, she’ll be speaking alongside Harvard’s Julie Reuben and Louise Dube, Executive Director of iCivics, about the relationship between educational theory, educational praxis, and the inculcation of democratic values.
For this issue, she’s opted to focus on the question of professional development in the education sector. Deriving insights from her experience designing and delivering a large-scale leadership capacity building project in Tanzania, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon and Indonesia, she outlines some key insights for those wishing to empower educators to provide technology-enhanced teaching.
We’re also very proud to introduce the newest member of the global Reimagine team: Saudi Arabia’s Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd University, who, since their inception in 2006, have aimed to foster high-quality teaching and learning at international standards, thus driving the development of the Saudi workforce. Recognising the work done at Reimagine to platform and promote employability-enhancing pedagogy, they’ve chosen to join the Reimagine mission as Gold Sponsors. Learn more about them here.
Supporting Reimagine, like PMU, means supporting an initiative whose current and former participants are transforming the lives of tens of millions of learners worldwide. If you’d like to join the global community of Reimagine sponsors, you can find out more here.
Our partnership with The EdTech Podcast – and their founder, Sophie Bailey – continues, too. In this penultimate episode of the EdTech Podcast’s Education 4.0 series with their friends at Jisc, she continues to explore the changing world of education in the fourth industrial era. This week she asks “who can help embed new technologies and working practices?” as she examines the pioneers and settlers needed to create change in education.
Time is also running out for those wishing to join the judging panel, and receive both early access to 2019’s top applications and a discounted pass to our London conference (8th-10th December). Those still wishing to contribute their expert insight to Reimagine 2019 can submit their candidacy here.
If you’re an applicant – or prospective applicant – and would like any assistance with your submission, or to establish whether your pedagogy or solution are appropriate for the competition, please don’t hesitate to email us! I can be reached at jack@qs.com, and will endeavor to deal with any application query within 24 hours.
Anyone who wishes to submit an article on their work, research, product, or paper for our newsletter is, as ever, welcome to contact jack@qs.com with an 100-word summary of their proposed topic. Until then – keep innovating!
Regards,
Jack Moran
